Holidays at the Newport Mansions 2026: Hours, Tickets and Sparkling Lights at The Breakers
Holidays at the Newport Mansions is the Preservation Society of Newport County's annual Christmas season at its Gilded Age houses. For 2026, three mansions are decorated: The Breakers, Marble House and Chateau-sur-Mer. Expect nearly 30 Christmas trees, hundreds of poinsettias, garlands and wreaths, and a 15-foot poinsettia tree built from 150 plants in the Great Hall of The Breakers. In the evenings, Sparkling Lights at The Breakers lights up the grounds on select dates.
Here's what you need to know to plan a visit.
The essentials
- Dates: November 21, 2026 through January 3, 2027
- Houses: The Breakers, Marble House and Chateau-sur-Mer. The Elms is not part of the holiday season in 2026.
- Closed: Thanksgiving Day (November 26) and Christmas Day. All houses close at 2pm on December 24.
- Daytime tickets: regular admission. The Breakers is $32 for adults; One Property (any house except The Breakers) is $25.
- Evening: Sparkling Lights at The Breakers, 4pm–8pm on select dates, November 21 through December 27. Separate ticket, from $45 for adult non-members.
- Parking: free on site at the mansions
Hours by house
Each house keeps its own schedule during the holiday period:
- The Breakers: Monday through Wednesday 9am–5pm; Thursday through Sunday 9am–3pm. It also closes at 3pm on December 21, 22 and 23.
- Marble House: open daily, 9am–5pm, last admission 4pm.
- Chateau-sur-Mer: Saturdays and Sundays only, 9am–5pm, last admission 4pm.
On December 24 every house closes at 2pm, with last entry at 1pm. The Preservation Society suggests allowing about an hour and a half per house.
Daytime tickets
There's no separate holiday ticket for daytime tours. You use the regular tickets:
- The Breakers: $32 adults, $14 ages 6–12
- The Breakers +1: $45 adults, $16 ages 6–12
- The Breakers +2: $57 adults, $18 ages 6–12
- One Property (any house except The Breakers): $25 adults, $10 ages 6–12
Children under 6 are free. Preservation Society members and Access Pass holders get in with their membership or pass.
The Breakers requires a ticket for a specific date and entry time, so book that one ahead. Marble House and Chateau-sur-Mer don't need a timed ticket. Tickets are sold on the Preservation Society's website and in person at The Breakers Welcome Center and Marble House.
The Breakers +2 covers all three decorated houses. Chateau-sur-Mer is only open on weekends, so plan a Saturday or Sunday if you want to see all three.
Sparkling Lights at The Breakers
Sparkling Lights is the evening part of the season. A half-mile path across The Breakers' 13-acre grounds is lit with hundreds of thousands of holiday lights, and your ticket includes the decorated rooms inside the house. There's music, and refreshments are for sale.
- When: select evenings, November 21 through December 27, 2026, 4pm–8pm
- Entry: timed, every half hour from 4pm to 6pm. Enter at your time or up to 30 minutes after.
- Prices: $45 adult non-members, $30 adult members, $18 youth, free under 6
- On sale: October 1, 2026
- Refunds: all sales are final unless the event is canceled for hazardous weather
Regular Breakers daytime tickets aren't accepted after 3pm on Sparkling Lights days, which is why the house closes early Thursday through Sunday.
Accessibility and visitor rules
- Mobility: the first floor of The Breakers and Marble House can be reached by wheelchair, and the second floor by an elevator run by staff.
- Strollers: not allowed inside the mansions. There's stroller parking near each entrance.
- Pets: leashed service dogs only. Emotional support and companion animals are not allowed.
- Food and drink: only water in a sealable container inside the houses.
- Bags: purses and camera bags are fine; large bags and luggage are not.
- Photos: interior photography for personal use is allowed, without flash, tripods or selfie sticks.
