Wellfleet OysterFest 2026: Visitor's Guide

June 25, 2026J Tarbox2 min read

The Wellfleet OysterFest is Cape Cod's great fall celebration of the oyster — a two-day street festival that draws tens of thousands to downtown Wellfleet for fresh-shucked oysters, the famous Shuck-Off, a craft market, and a weekend of seaside fun.

What it is

Held the weekend after Columbus Day — October 17–18, 2026, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day — OysterFest takes over downtown Wellfleet along Main Street and the Town Hall and Preservation Hall lots. Produced by the Wellfleet Oyster Alliance, the local non-profit devoted to the town's shellfishing heritage, it celebrates Wellfleet's world-famous oysters and the community that farms them. It's a rain-or-shine event, with attendance capped at 10,000 per day.

What to do

  • The Oyster Shuck-Off — billed as the largest oyster shucking competition in North America, and the festival's marquee event.
  • Raw bars and local food vendors serving fresh Wellfleet oysters, seafood, and Cape Cod fare.
  • A "Learn to Shuck" class ($25) for anyone who wants to try it themselves.
  • Live music on the main stage, an author talk at the Wellfleet Library, a free kids' fun area, and an arts and crafts market — with beer, wine, and seltzer sold behind Town Hall and in the Preservation Hall lot (cash only).
