Maine Boat & Home Show in Rockland: New England's Premier In-Water Boat Show

April 7, 2026Admin User - J Tarbox2 min read

The Maine Boat & Home Show is the kind of event that could only happen in a place like Rockland. Set on Harbor Park with Penobscot Bay as the backdrop, it's the largest in-water boat show north of Newport, Rhode Island — and one of the few boat shows anywhere that feels as much like a cultural event as a marine expo.

Produced by Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors magazine, the show runs for three days in early August (August 7–9, 2026) and draws boaters, builders, artists, and coastal living enthusiasts from across New England.

The Boats

More than 60 boats are displayed in the water and on land. The in-water fleet is the main attraction — sailboats, cruisers, downeast-style lobster boats, and custom builds are tied up at the docks where you can board them, talk to builders, and see how they handle at rest. It's a fundamentally different experience from an indoor show where boats sit on trailers under fluorescent lights.

The on-land displays round things out with smaller boats, inflatables, tenders, and boat-related gear. You'll see boats from Maine builders alongside national brands, and the mix of traditional and modern designs reflects Maine's unique position as both a heritage boatbuilding state and a modern marine industry hub.

Beyond the Boats

What sets the Maine Boat & Home Show apart from a pure marine expo is the "Home" half of the equation. A significant portion of the show is dedicated to coastal living — artisan furniture, fine art, home design, Maine-made goods, and specialty food vendors. It's the kind of show where you might buy a kayak and a handmade dining table on the same trip.

There's also a strong educational component. Seminars cover topics from navigation and boat maintenance to coastal ecology and marine weather. If you're a new boat owner or thinking about becoming one, the programming is a good way to build knowledge without the pressure of a sales floor.

The Setting

Rockland is a working waterfront town that's evolved into one of the most interesting small towns on the Maine coast. The show takes place at Harbor Park, right on the harbor, with views of the Rockland Breakwater and the islands beyond. It's the kind of setting that makes you want to own a boat even if you came just to browse.

The town itself is worth exploring. Rockland has excellent restaurants, galleries, and the Farnsworth Art Museum within walking distance of the show grounds. Many visitors make a weekend of it.

Practical Information

Admission is $15 for adults. Kids 12 and under get in free. Show hours are 10 AM–5 PM on Friday and Saturday, and 10 AM–4 PM on Sunday. Plan for at least a few hours — between the boats, the exhibitors, and the seminars, there's more to see than you might expect.

Parking is available near the show grounds, but Rockland is a small town and spaces fill up, especially on Saturday. Arrive early or plan to walk a bit. The show is accessible from Route 1, and if you're coming from the south, it's about two hours from Portland.
